4 Steps to Holistic Health

September 10, 2020 By Andrew Damron Leave a Comment

Do you suffer from frequent headaches, pain from an old high school sports injury (or a recent one), or a lack of energy from a chronic illness? There’s a lot more to being a Doctor of Chiropractic than cracking spines and Damron Chiropractic & Wellness can help. You deserve to feel better, get stronger and do all the things you want to do. In a matter of days to weeks, our 4-Step Plan Holistic Health Plan can have you moving, feeling and looking better than you have in years.

Here’s a quick glimpse at the 4-Step Holistic Health Care Plan.

1.) Chiropractic Care

The most basic form of therapeutic care performed by a Doctor of Chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation” aka the “chiropractic adjustment.” The chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which trained professionals use their hands to apply controlled and sudden force to the spinal joint in order to improve physical function, increase mobility and alleviate pain. But there are more benefits to chiropractic adjustments than aiding in the repair of injured tissue.

The benefits of regular adjustments include:

  • A boost to your immune system
  • Injury prevention
  • Help improving your athletic performance
  • Prevents the needs for back surgery
  • Improves organ function
  • Improves balance and coordination
  • Promotes graceful aging

2). Rehabilitation

Injuries happen, no matter what your age. While rehabilitation means different things to different people, the focus is the same. The DCW Rehabilitation Department has four main areas of specialty:

Injury. For patients who have been hurt in a car or work-related accident, injury rehab is for patients who are out of acute pain treatment.

Muscular Imbalance. Muscular Imbalance Rehabilitation (MIR) is designed to alleviate pain that may not have resulted from a specific injury. Examples of MIR can be found in age-related disc degeneration and the onset of “text neck.”

Health-Focused. When treating chronic conditions such as allergies, cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism or weight and stress management is the focus, sometimes patients need an accountability partner and the support of a well-trained staff member. We put together a plan that incorporates rehabilitation exercises and stretching that promotes good health and focuses on avoiding injury.

Athlete and Sport-Specific. When playing sports, injuries are inevitable. When injury does occur and in order to get the athlete back in elite competition form, an injury and sport specific plan is required. From grade school to college, time is of the essence. Without proper healing and rehabilitation, the athlete runs the risk of re-injury.

3). Therapeutic Massage

At one time, going to a spa and getting a massage was considered a luxury. In today’s stress-ridden, autoimmune deficient, muscle and joint pain-afflicted lives, it’s becoming a necessity. At DCW, we create personalized massage therapies for each person we treat. We also welcome individuals who are not patients but would like to enjoy the benefits of receiving massage therapy.

4). Nutrition

Nutritional support, also known as functional medicine, looks at the underlying causes of disease. It takes into consideration the systems of the entire body. The use of laboratory testing and other diagnostics help us game-plan treatment options that utilize nutritional supplements, detoxification programs and stress management tools to gain optimum health and restore balance to the physical body, even after years of sickness.

At Damron Chiropractic & Wellness, our goal isn’t just to treat symptoms, but to find long-term, manageable solutions to bring optimal health and function within all the body’s systems. If you’re ready to feel your best and do what you love to do, schedule a consultation with Dr. Damron today. Call us at 513.770.3434 or schedule online. We can’t wait to see you!

Health Hazards with H Pylori

February 21, 2017 By Pam Rezai Leave a Comment

Bacteria surrounds us both inside and out. To minimize our exposure to it we know we should wash our hands, cook food properly, rinse produce, and not share a drink. Yet, despite our best efforts, bacteria does find its ways into our bodies. Helicobacter pylori, or H pylori as it is commonly called, is a bacteria that resides in our stomach. This bacteria was discovered in 1982 by Australian scientists, Barry Marshall and Robin Warren, as they conducted research on patients who suffered from gastritis and ulcers. While bacteria was known to inhabit the stomach, it was believed that it came about from contaminated food. Not so.

H pylori is found in more than half of the world’s population; however, a vast majority never experience any symptoms or complications. However, how would you know if you were suffering from this type of bacterial infection? Below are several symptoms associated with an H pylori infection:

  • Bloating
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Frequent burping
  • Abdominal pain that becomes worse when your stomach is empty
  • Weight loss
  • An ache or burning in your abdomen

To determine if you have an infection, a simple stool test can provide the answers. Unfortunately, most medical doctors will prescribe antibiotics which destroy the delicate balance of the gut. They will also be given prescription acid reducers because of the heartburn. This, too, is a problem, as it creates an environment that allows the H pylori to thrive. At Damron Chiropractic & Wellness (DCW), after conducting the stool test, a course of natural/herbal supplements is recommended to help kill the bacteria.

In addition to an infection, studies are correlating H pylori with an increased chance of developing ulcers, gastritis, and even cancer.  A recent study also found a connection with the heart condition atrial fibrillation, or AF.  This disorder affects over 2 million Americans and causes the chambers of the heart to flutter or quiver rather than beat. Blood then pools in the chamber, increasing the potential for clots to develop. If the clot finds itself lodged in a brain artery, a stroke can occur. In this particular study, individuals were 20 times more likely to show levels of H pylori.

Healing With Functional Medicine

October 18, 2016 By Pam Rezai Leave a Comment

Functional medicine is similar to bringing your car in for service when there is a problem. A mechanic will perform various diagnostic tests to determine the cause of your problem, looking under the hood, checking valves, and fluid levels. What would you think if the mechanic simply walked around the perimeter of your car and did nothing else to determine the problem? How accurate would the assessment of the true problem be?

Many times a doctor does just that with us. We make an appointment due to a symptom we are experiencing like a fever, coughing, rash, or sore throat. The doctor “walks around our perimeter” by taking vitals, asking a few questions, making a diagnosis, then prescribing antibiotics, if necessary. Problem solved. However, shouldn’t seeing a doctor be more like how our car is treated at the mechanic?

Functional medicine is much like the approach a mechanic takes. The doctor looking to identify and correct the root cause, or the underlying mechanisms, of the problem. The result is that symptoms improve and the disease process is halted or reversed. Overall health is improved, as well.

Three factors are involved in the development of disease:

  1. Antecedents are precursors that set the stage for illness. These can include asthma, antibiotics, previous injuries, irritable bowel syndrome, and childhood stress.
  2. Triggers are what sets off an illness such as a virus, suffering a loss, and a lack of exercise.
  3. Mediators are what contributes to an illness such as low hormone levels, inflammation, stress, and poor nutrition.

The goal of functional medicine is to look at the entire patient picture and including as many facts and data as possible. This information allows for the development of clear road map for treatment by the doctor. The goal is to ensure good health is recovered, not simply masked.

At DCW, we take a functional medicine approach to each and every patient we treat. Because success should mean resolving a person’s health problems once and for all, shouldn’t it?
