4 of the Best Habits to Adopt to Stick To Your Workout Plan

January 22, 2024 By Andrew Damron Leave a Comment

Just 24% of American adults meet the physical activity guidelines for aerobic and muscle-strengthening activity.

Getting into an engaging workout routine takes time and a lot of effort. Not many people can start exercising and stick to it without regular setbacks, making it a daunting process. If you’re going to drive results and see positive changes, you need to create healthy lifestyle habits that turn into a healthy routine.

In today’s post, we’ll tell you 4 of the best habits to adopt when you’re starting to work out. Sticking to a workout plan takes dedication, but you can gradually develop greater dedication by creating a habitual mindset. Keep reading and develop the habits you need to enjoy a healthier lifestyle in 2024.

Habit Stacking Explained

Whenever you begin examining your daily habits, you’ll see that you’ve dug into certain ways of going about your day for no particular reason. You do things a particular way just because you’ve always done it that way. This is just our brains making sense of the world.

Habits can negatively impact your physical and mental health, but you can also use them to your advantage to create a healthier lifestyle. One of the ways to do this is with habit stacking.

Habit stacking involves taking something you already do habitually and attaching another habit to it. A common example is to start flossing after you brush your teeth. Eventually, this will go from habit stacking to a daily oral health routine.

Any of the healthy habits we’re about to discuss can be stacked together so that they’re easier to integrate into your routine.

1. Meditate Regularly

Everyone knows how important our physical health is. If you’ve just begun exercising as an adult, you’re probably already noticing how much better you feel after a run or trip to the gym. What’s becoming clearer to more people, however, is the importance of mental health.

Our mental and physical health are intertwined. Exercising is proven to reduce symptoms of anxiety and stress while releasing endorphins that give you a jolt of positive energy. Cultivating good mental health, in turn, makes it easier to get into a workout routine.

One of the ways to boost your mental health is to practice meditation and mindfulness. Spending just 15-20 minutes per day sitting in meditation can help a great deal with anxiety, stress, and depression, among other issues.

Habit-stacking meditation practice is easy. Your body always feels at its best after a good workout, so you can tack on a quick meditation practice after a run or trip to the gym. Feeling good emotionally, as well as physically, will incentivize you to stick to your workout routine.

2. Create Better Sleep Habits

Sleep is so important to our overall health, but just 1 in 3 American adults gets the required 7-9 hours of sleep per night. When you do get enough sleep, you feel more energetic and ready to tackle your workout routine.

When you’re asleep, your body also recovers from whatever you did during the day. If you get enough, your body will feel ready to go the next day, making it easier to stick to a daily workout regimen. When you’re sleep-deprived, your body will be more inflamed and the mental hurdle to working out will be greater.

Creating better sleep habits comes down to routine as well. One of the surefire ways to improve your sleep is to go to bed at the same time every night. Temper your caffeine intake throughout the day and avoid big meals close to your bedtime.

The other way to promote sleep is to create a more sleep-inducing atmosphere. Keep your smartphone and other electronic devices in different rooms to avoid residual light that could disrupt your sleep.

3. Enjoy a Better Diet with Mindful Eating

A good diet is one of the most impactful healthy lifestyle habits to adopt. If you eat nutrient-rich foods, not only will your body feel good and ready to work out, but you’ll enjoy all of the lasting health benefits good food provides.

Creating a balanced diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits, nuts, healthy fats, natural enzymes, and omega-3 fatty acids will prepare you for your workout. Eating an abundance of these nutrients will give you more energy to work out and help fight inflammation during workout recovery.

Most people don’t pay attention when they eat, which causes them to eat too much. By practicing mindful eating, you take more time and pay close mind to each bite. Listening to your body’s signals will create a healthier relationship with the food you eat.

4. Spend Time Outdoors

You should always make time to exercise outdoors a few times per week. As a society, we spend around 90% of our time indoors, including when we work out, which deprives us of a variety of benefits that being outside provides.

On a base level, we don’t get things like vitamin D and we’re exposed to contaminants when we’re always indoors. There have been numerous studies over the years devoted to showing the many health benefits of spending time outside, however.

Time spent in nature can reduce stress and lower blood pressure. It also improves lung function and heart health, due to the natural air purification functions of trees and shrubs. From a mental health perspective, walking on a wooded path can reduce cognitive decline and boost positivity.

You can perform a variety of exercises outdoors that can strengthen your workout routine. From going on long outdoor runs to playing sports, you can do any activity you do in the gym outside. Many cities have even incorporated outdoor workout equipment into their parks and outdoor spaces.

Choosing the Best Habits to Adopt

These are just a few of the best habits to adopt for a healthier lifestyle. A workout plan is only effective when you can stick to it, so all of the habits around your exercises must make you feel good. The better you feel, the easier it is to stick to a workout routine.

Chiropractic Treatment After an Accident: 3 reasons why a chiropractor should be one of the first people you call.

November 16, 2020 By Andrew Damron Leave a Comment

“Today is a great day to get into a car crash,” said no one ever.

Yet more than three million people in the U.S. are injured in motor vehicle accidents every year. What’s more, statistics show that you’ll be in an auto accident an average of three times over your lifetime. Regardless of whether that accident is a low-speed fender-bender or a high-velocity crash, good chiropractic care is critical to the spine’s long-term health in the aftermath of a car wreck.

While it’s always a good idea to get a thorough check by a medical doctor for broken bones or signs of concussion—even after a seemingly minor rear-ending—a chiropractic doctor can treat the misalignment of the musculoskeletal system in the way a physician can’t. A chiropractor can help the spine’s long-term health without masking symptoms using highly addictive pain medications and/or surgery.

Here are three reasons why a chiropractor should be one of the first people you call after a car accident:

Reason #1: Prevents scar tissue and long-term spine issues.

Think of your spine as a rubber band. You can stretch a rubber band, but it eventually loses its elasticity. Each time your body is subject to any kind of impact –- a car accident, a bumpy roller-coaster ride, a tackle during a flag-football game —  that elastic is stretched even more. Eventually, those micro-traumas (or more serious traumas, in the case of a car accident) can cause long-term issues if left untreated.

It doesn’t take much impact to throw spinal alignment out of whack. Run-of-the-mill x-rays can show a lot, but they don’t show the micro-tears that can happen as a result of an accident — even ones that happen at school-zone speed. A chiropractor can make adjustments to bring the spine back into alignment, releasing natural anti-inflammatory properties to reduce pain and aid in a speedy recovery. Adjustments also help by reducing the forming and even the breakdown of scar tissue that leads to stiff, achy joints and eventual arthritis.

Reason #2: Restores mobility.

Injuries to the neck and back can wreak havoc on the body’s range of motion. Inflamed muscles and joints with built-up or forming scar tissue can make it difficult to turn your head, tie your shoes, or do many of the things you love to do. Mobilization of the spine through frequent adjustments can not only help you reach that itch in the center of your back, it also helps you feel better faster.

Reason #3: Provides short-term and long-term relief.

When seeking chiropractic care after an accident, most patients report feeling some immediate relief, thus eliminating the need for medications or surgeries. Add that to the benefit of increased mobility and you have a patient who develops far fewer long-term issues than those who don’t receive chiropractic care. And those who can continue to work and move freely are proven to recover faster and more wholly than those who can’t seem to rouse themselves out of bed.

Spinal adjustments after an accident not only keeps minor injuries from becoming major, they restore range of motion and naturally reduce pain and stiffness. If you’ve been in an accident, the sooner you consult a chiropractor, the better. Dr. Damron and his team at Damron Chiropractic & Wellness are here to help. They can assess your injuries, develop a  plan of treatment and put you back on the road to living a pain free and well-adjusted life.

If you’ve been involved in a car accident, schedule an appointment with Dr. Damron today. Even if it seemed like a minor fender-bender, it can have long-term effects on how you feel every day. Make your appointment today.

You Can Stop Preventable Disease

July 20, 2017 By Pam Rezai Leave a Comment

Two out of three U.S. adults are overweight or obese.

One in twenty adults have extreme obesity.

One out of three children are considered overweight or obese.

One of every five preventable disease and deaths is attributed to smoking.

One out of three adults have prediabetes.

One out of three deaths are attributed to cardiovascular disease.

These statistics are staggering. In fact, they are so alarming that one would think that the trend is declining, however, quite the opposite is true. Let’s face it, Americans are facing a serious epidemic that is completely within their control. Yet, despite this control, are still choosing to turn a blind eye to the consequences of their choices. Much like waving the white flag of surrender during historic battles.

Despite countless measures by reputable organizations and non-profits, even our own government for that matter, society continues on the same unhealthy path. Billions of dollars are invested to change these statistics, yet no one is listening. Similar to the decision of surrender during war, when troops are out numbered and lacking sufficient weaponry to defend themselves, modern society needs to acknowledge the same defeat. Except our enemy is not a person, or country. It is a lifestyle.

This lifestyle is also a mindset. Common sense is thrown out the window. Reliance on convenience and cost has trumped nutrition. Do we not know, at some level, that fried, fast food is not good for our health? That just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean sacrificing nutritional value for ourselves or children. Or that soda contains way too much sugar for our body to digest? What about the the ingredients in a package of food? Have you ever really tried to read the list? If you can’t pronounce it, chances are your body can’t use it.

Likewise, the surgeon general warns that cigarettes are harmful to our health, even to the extent of causing cancer. Television commercials show a former smoker with a tracheostomy (surgically created hole in the windpipe) telling people not to smoke or this might happen to them, too.

Isn’t it time that we wave that white flag, saying we are through with living on this slippery slope of unhealthy choices? Surrendering means realizing that our bodies are no match for processed foods, remaining sedentary, or overindulgence. If we were, we wouldn’t be in the health crisis we are in today.

Let’s start by waving that white flag – today.

The White Flour Epidemic

March 9, 2017 By Pam Rezai Leave a Comment

Refined grains negatively impact the entire body, from head to toe. Western society is fully immersed in refined grains. Grains that are stripped of any nutritional content in order to give food products increased shelf life. There is a trade-off though. For the modern convenience of eating on the run, we pay with our health. Unfortunately, many Americans are not aware they have made a compromise like this.

It is very easy to over-consume flour-based products because most require little chewing and go down quickly because the only thing left of the grain is the endosperm. This white powder can last on the shelf for months. Using this form of flour, refined, in processed foods is a staple in the Western diet. In fact, Americans consume 10 servings of refined grains per day! Over-consumption affects the brain, blood, pancreas, gut, colon, and the waistline.

Food cravings come from the brain. With the advent of high-yield wheat strains, grain now grows faster to keep up with demand. However, one of the biggest changes to this new form of wheat is a modified form of gliadin. Gliadin is a wheat protein that causes the “feel good effect” in our brain. We then associate eating with feeling good, which in turn causes over-consumption. On average, people eat 400 more calories per day from wheat now. Scariest of all, no one knows for certain if this new form of wheat is safe for human consumption!

Blood sugar spikes faster with refined grains than with sugar. Eating two slices of bread is like eating 6 teaspoons of sugar in terms of the effect it has on blood sugar levels! Also, you are hungry two hours later and you are increasing your risk for type 2 diabetes. The diabetes risk is due to the overproduction of insulin from the pancreas, which is necessary to combat the spikes in blood sugar. Additionally, inflammation becomes evident throughout the entire body.

Inflammation causes particular harm to the gut as another protein, called zonulin, creates holes in the intestines. These holes allow food particles to pass through undigested. The gliadin in flour causes the body to overproduce zonulin which in turn creates the holes and an immune systems that is in overdrive. This manifests itself with food allergies and sensitivities, not to mention skin conditions. Finally, the colon takes its toll over time, too, with a slower passage rate and blockage.

However, the most concerning is the waistline as the size is a risk factor for not only type 2 diabetes, but coronary heart disease, hypertension, some types of cancer, asthma, sleep apnea, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, infertility, and metabolic syndrome. In males, the ideal is a waistline less than 40 inches, and women less than 35 inches. By measuring at the top of the hip bones, around the waist, is the correct way to determine where you fall. Remember to keep the tape snug, but not tight.

This simple test can help you gain a realistic perspective on your overall health. If your range is above the ideal, that’s okay. The first step is acknowledging there is a problem. Once you are aware, steps can be taken to correct it.

Do You Have Enough Melatonin?

February 28, 2017 By Pam Rezai Leave a Comment

Melatonin is a vital hormone necessary to sustain life.

Cutting your sleep short due to an early flight or studying for exams and you will most certainly feel it the next day. Sleep plays a vital role in our daily life, mess with it and you know. From tissue repair to restoring energy, sleep allows us to function each day, both inside and out. But what about those times when you have trouble getting to sleep? One night might be okay, however, what about several? What can a person do to remedy their situation that is not only safe but effective?

Most healthy adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night. Children and teenagers need even more. To help you determine if you are getting enough sleep, answer the following questions:

  • Do you have difficulty getting out of bed in the morning?
  • Are you feeling sluggish in the afternoon?
  • Do you need to nap to get through the day?
  • Have you been falling asleep watching television in the evening?
  • Are you relying on the snooze button too much?
  • Are asleep within 5 minutes of going to bed.

There are serious consequences to our health if we are not getting sufficient sleep that include premature skin aging, a weakened immune system, and impaired motor skills. To avoid this it’s imperative that we are aware of how we feel each and every day. If we know that we are suffering from sleep deprivation, we can then be proactive and do something to remedy the situation.

While there are many prescription sleep-aids on the market today, all have the potential for serious side effects. Familiar brand names include Lunesta, Ambien, and Sonata. A good night’s sleep comes with the risk of developing a side effect like changes in appetite, difficulty keeping balance, constipation and even compulsive behaviors such as gambling and eating. Even scarier is the fact that some users have experienced sleepwalking, sleep eating and sleep driving. The good news is that there are natural and effective options available for those who suffer from lack of effective sleep.

Melantonin is a hormone created by our pineal gland in our brain that regulates our sleep and wake cycles. The amount produced is influenced by our internal clock and how much light we are exposed to throughout the day. As the evening progresses, our melatonin levels increase, remaining elevated all through the night. It is this period of time that our body needs to repair and recharge itself for the following day. If we are unable to fall asleep, or stay asleep, this essential work is compromised, leaving us vulnerable to health problems. So, what are we to do if we are having sleep difficulties without resorting to prescription medications and the potential for more harmful side effects by using them?

The U.S. Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 allows melantonin to be sold as a supplement. By naturally being found in some foods such as pineapples, rice, and tomatoes, melatonin is the only hormone that is available over the counter. This wonderful supplement, when taken as directed, helps a person to fall asleep naturally when occasional sleeplessness occurs.

There are times in our life when we need a little help getting the sleep that we need. It’s normal, especially as we age and our supply of melatonin decreases. Quality sleep is essential to how well we thrive.

Text Neck

February 2, 2017 By Pam Rezai Leave a Comment

On average, the human head weighs between 10 to 12 pounds. Proper posture ensures the weight is evenly distributed at the top of the spine. With the advent of technology and mobile devices, we find ourselves with a posture epidemic. One that has shifted the alignment in such a way that has created a set of symptoms we now call “text neck.” As our head moves forward and leans down it increases the strain of the weight of our head on the rest of our body. Thus creating a domino effect of pain and discomfort as our body compensates for this change in posture.

What we may not realize is that hunching even slightly to look at our mobile device increases the strain our body must bear. For example, looking down only at a 15 degree angle increases the strain on our neck by 27 pounds. Likewise, based on the picture above, a 30 degree angle strains the neck with 40 pounds, and so on. Because we are so accustomed to this poor posture, it may be difficult to imagine what this strain feels like. To help, we give our patients a 10 pound ball to hold with their elbow resting on a table. As they move the weighted ball forward it becomes increasingly difficult to hold it. Eventually, they are unable to any longer.

The point is this, we are creating undo stress on our neck, spine, and muscles. This stress creates compression between the vertebrae which then leads to chronic neck and shoulder pain, in addition to headaches. Because of the trends in technology, many people do not even realize the cause of these symptoms. The good news is that we have the power to correct text neck with a few simple exercises and being more mindful of what we are doing.

First, pay attention to where you are holding your device. Raise it up so you are looking straight at it versus down. If you are looking at a laptop or desktop, do what you can to prevent yourself from looking down at it. Adjust the height of your chair or table. To help relieve the stain on your neck and shoulders you can also do this simple exercise of squeezing your shoulder blades together. You can also work on keeping your ears over your shoulders as much as possible throughout the day, too. Text neck is also treated by a chiropractor and massage therapist, as well. Regular visits to both will help to keep your body in alignment, improve posture, and eliminate any pain you might be experiencing.

Technology will always be a part of our world. Rather than modifying our body to suit technology, we must make technology modify to suit us. If we don’t our body will let us know with symptoms of pain and discomfort.

Knee Pain

December 22, 2016 By Pam Rezai Leave a Comment

Knee pain. There can be many causes for it. Initially we might ignore it, that is until it starts to interfere with our daily life. When that happens our immediate reaction is thinking we need surgery. Pain equals problem, right? While the pain does indicate there is a problem, it doesn’t necessarily mean surgery. In fact, quite the opposite is true.

Recently, a patient came into the office for her periodic adjustment. Dr. Damron noticed that she was limping. When he asked her why she explained she had been experiencing knee pain. She was having trouble walking up and down stairs and the pain was even keeping her up at night. She indicated that her parents felt she had a torn meniscus and should get in to have an MRI. Dr. Damron asked if he could take a look.

His assessment revealed not a torn meniscus but rather a patella (or knee cap) was not tracking as it should. The reason had to do with her IT band (iliotibial band) which is a ligament that runs down the outside of the thigh from the hip to the shin. It appeared that it was tight and inflamed which was causing the knee to become destabilized. An unstable knee cap will cause it to pull to one side or another. A common phrase heard when this occurs is patella tracking.

Dr. Damron’s course of recommended treatment included leg exercises that focused on strengthening the knee and relaxing the IT band with a foam roller. The first night the patient was able to sleep without pain. A major milestone! The following day she was able to walk up and down stairs a bit more freely without debilitating pain. The pain was still there, but it was much more tolerable only after two exercise sessions.

In conclusion, it’s is important to drop assumptions when it comes to pain. That pain does not equate surgery. Most importantly, that chiropractors do far more than simply provide spinal adjustments. Their scope of care encompasses the entire body with a holistic approach that minimizes healthcare costs. If you have yet to see a chiropractor, perhaps it’s time to align yourself with one in the new year to give yourself exactly what your body needs.

Education Advantage

June 23, 2016 By Pam Rezai Leave a Comment

When we are young, we don’t fully understand the significance of our education, the advantages that a good education provides us. However, later in life, after experiencing many of its realities, we fully realize and appreciate the advantage of our education. Education can open doors for us that may not have opened without it. Education can open our eyes to things we may never have known about, that then in turn empower us. Knowledge can transform lives. It can also create value to those who receive it and increase the credibility of the one giving it.

How many encounters have you had with a representative from any company, big or small, that truly educated you on what you were purchasing or considering to buy? That number is probably rather small, but those experiences definitely left a positive impression on you, didn’t it? Think about how that person made you feel as they educated you on why a certain thing needed to be done, on how it would truly benefit you. Did you feel important? Did you feel valued? Did you trust that person more? Did you walk away feeling like you had the knowledge now to make the best decision for yourself?

Let’s face it, there are not many individuals who really take the time to provide you that much value. However, at Damron Chiropractic & Wellness (DCW) we make a concerted effort to educate and inform each and every one of our patients. Our goal is to ensure that every person who walks through our doors has a deeper understanding of true wellness and the power that they have to influence it. We aim for less reliance on medications to treat symptoms, but rather on addressing the cause of the symptoms. Only when this happens can transformation take place. We strive for an elevated quality of life.

When you understand the solution, you can make better choices for yourself and those you love. You also realize that the truth will indeed set you free.

Surgery Is the Last Option

April 19, 2016 By Pam Rezai

When you have an accident or get injured, surgery should be your last option, not your first. Granted there will be times when it is apparent that surgery is required, depending on the severity of the injury. But many times we mistakenly jump to the conclusion that the body is unable to heal itself and surgery is needed. In fact, the surgical option can come with another set of potential issues and complications whether it’s a knee replacement or a herniated disc. So, if the situation permits, exploring other treatment remedies may not only heal you but also prevent a longer road to recovery.

Strengthening the affected area through a series of specific exercises can significantly reduce the chance of surgery if you are working with a credible professional that is trained to do just that. Being actively engaged in physical therapy over a set course of time, plus eating the right foods and taking the right nutritional supplements can help to heal the body, too. But what if after all the effort to correct the problem it doesn’t work? Well, then surgery can be your last option. Surgery is invasive, not a guarantee, expensive, and many times requires physical therapy afterwards. Why not try other options first?

Your body is an amazing organism made up of many complex systems. Given the chance, it has the ability to heal itself if given the right tools. Perhaps the injury occurred in the first place because we lacked balance and were weak. Perhaps we overexerted ourselves causing our body to stain. Perhaps we thought we were okay after a minor car accident only to wake up two weeks later in pain. Seeking a holistic approach to our body can provide great insight as to the true cause of our problem and eliminate countless visits to other doctors who may opt for surgery first.

Patience, along with rehabilitation, is really a virtue, especially when it comes to the well-being of our body.

Live to Learn

April 8, 2016 By Pam Rezai

Imagine how your life would be if you stopped learning in grade school. What if you stopped learning in high school? Or college? Or at your very first job out of school? If you look back over your life, you probably realize that it has been full of life lessons. The times where we fell flat on our face but got up, brushed ourselves off and knew we would never make the same mistake again. A fundamental truth to life is that we live to learn. It never stops and that is good.

The milestones in life give us another opportunity to learn – getting married, having children, retiring, moving. Even when get sick or injured we learn once again. Preconceived ideas or beliefs, based on our life experiences, can limit our learning. We may unknowingly have on blinders that try to prevent us from learning a better or new way to do something. Take, for example, chiropractic care. Do we know that pain caused by an injury, such as with a fall, a car accident, or sports, can be successfully treated by a Chiropractor? Most of us probably do not. Most of us would take medication to address the pain versus addressing the source of the pain as a Chiropractor would. Most of us would assume that because there wasn’t an injury in the car accident that all is okay. Most of us would assume that playing sports means “no pain, no gain” – it’s just part of the territory. This viewpoint couldn’t be further from the truth.

The truth as we know it can be limited to what we actually know. In other words, if we stopped going to school in the 5th grade, our knowledge would be limited to that of a 5th grader. For the rest of our life we would be at a significant disadvantage to others who continued on with their education. We can use this same analogy with our health. We can severely limit our ability to maintain good health if we rely on what we learn from the media or commercials or pop culture. Rather, we should always be on a quest to learn more. Learning more can have a tremendous impact on the quality of our life. By living to learn, we take control of our destiny because we search for the truth versus making assumptions. We also come to realize that the many things we put no value in actually do. You see, depending on who is delivering the message, whether it’s on t.v. or an advertisement in a magazine, the truth is skewed in the favor of the company because they are selling a product. That’s not to say the product being advertised is of value, it simply means that there is a purpose to that ad – revenue. The truth is validated when YOU do your own homework. When YOU live to learn as much as you can about obtaining optimal health. Imagine the possibilities.

OUR TEAM

Dr. Andrew Damron, Chiropractor

Why ChiropracticProfessional Experience Personal Information
Dr. Damron established DCW because he was fed up with the current health model. Statistics continue to show an increase in pharmaceutical prescriptions to patients every day. Although he does believe some medications are necessary, he believes the majority of what is prescribed is actually harmful to the patient’s long-term health, creating another set of healthcare issues as a result. Dr. Damron believes DCW’s unique approach to achieving overall wellness will revolutionize the healthcare industry through collaborative care utilizing chiropractic, massage therapy, rehabilitation, and nutrition. The DCW focus addresses the whole person versus a only symptom and uncovers the root cause. He also believes that education is vital to sustaining a healthier more vibrant lifestyle as well. His goal is to create a healthier society and a better place for our children to live.
Dr. Damron began his medical career with a Biology Degree from Wright State University in 2002. He went on to receive his Doctorate of Chiropractic from the prestigious Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida in 2007. While attending Palmer, he had the opportunity to travel abroad to Madagascar and provide chiropractic care to the native Malagasy people. Dr. Damron has continued his post-graduate studies with a focus on nutrition, rehabilitation, and functional medicine.
Dr. Damron and his wife, Kristy, reside in West Chester with their two young children, Graden and Isabelle. An avid Buckeye fan, Dr. Damron enjoys playing the guitar in a band with his college friends, watching/playing any sport, cooking, reading, and attending concerts, especially the Dave Matthews Band and Foo Fighters.

Dr. Greg Washam, Chiropractor

Why ChiropracticProfessional Experience Personal Information
Dr. Washam was introduced to Chiropractic by his mother at the age of 16. She was working for a Chiropractor at the time, experiencing all the benefits that Chiropractic care had to offer, and thus began taking Dr. Washam and his siblings in for regular adjustments. Dr. Washam had been experiencing painful bouts of Strep Throat from the age of 8, which always included a 10 day course of antibiotics. While under Chiropractic care his doctor convinced him to avoid the antibiotics and receive Chiropractic adjustments instead. To his amazement, Dr. Washam’s strep throat symptoms had vanished within three days and he never had an issue from that point forward. He was so astounded by his experience that he fell in love with Chiropractic and decided that was the path for him. Brooke Snyder, Operations Manager

Why DCWProfessional Experience Personal Information
Brooke had never been to a medical office where she really felt like they cared more about her than her money until she came to DCW as a patient. DCW made it so easy to arrange financial payment with, they were compassionate, dedicated and most importantly 100% honest. The team addressed all aspects of her health and well-being, above and beyond chiropractic care. Her initial impression of chiropractic offices were that they would only adjust then send her on her way. She realized that she was wrong. Because of her experience as a patient at DCW she realized she wanted to pursue a career within it. She saw everything she wanted in healthcare at DCW. Finally, a place where patient care really comes first! She comes to DCW with a degree in Nursing and a background in finance. When someone asks her “Why DCW?” she cannot think of one reason why not.

Nicole Foreman, Licensed Massage Therapist

Why MassageProfessional Experience Personal Information
Nicole always wanted a career that was focused on helping people. It wasn’t until she drove past the Dayton School of Medical Massage on a daily basis that it became clear what she was meant to do. She enrolled as soon as she could and it has been the best decision she has ever made. She loves the feeling of knowing she has alleviated someone’s pain and possibly made their day better in some way. She had been working alongside chiropractors for over 7 years before joining the DCW team. Before DCW she never really felt her opinions and insights were valued or even asked for, which she felt hindered patient care and the effectiveness of each treatment. At DCW she feels valued and part of a practice that is focused on changing the approach of wellness with cohesive and effective patient care.
Nicole is a graduate of the Dayton School of Medical Massage and obtained her license in 2008. She utilizes Deep Tissue, Swedish and Thai massage techniques to relieve pain, tension, and stress while increasing range of motion and flexibility.
Nicole is married to her husband of 5 years and they one daughter, Rylee, and one child on the way due in September 2016. As a family they enjoy camping, hiking and spending time at the lake during the summer.

Erika Pantona, Insurance Specialist

Why DCWProfessional Experience Personal Information
Erika started coming to DCW in 2010 after spending two years in substantial pain after an injury. She had spent those two years at various specialists and taking medications to simply get up in the morning due to the pain. She was 18 when she found herself facing a major, life altering surgery (SI Fusion) and realized there must be another way. When she began her treatment plan at DCW she started to have days with little or no pain. She stopped taking her medications and realized they had been affecting her overall mood. In 2015 Erika joined the DCW team because they allowed her to live her life once again. She wants to prevent others from living in pain like she did unnecessarily, and to receive the benefits of chiropractic care.
Erika is well versed in the insurance industry with her previous employment at Express Scripts and Anthem.
Erika has two siblings and resides in Liberty Township. In her spare time she enjoys traveling and hiking with her family.

Amy Faris, Patient Care Coordinator

Why DCWProfessional Experience Personal Information
After moving to Ohio in 2010, I was in need of some relief from minor pain associated with working in customer service fields for 15 years. I was interested in seeking alternative forms of therapy and found a chiropractor in our small town. After going for a few visits, the therapy seemed somewhat outdated compared to what I had researched. In talking with my husband, he remembered that he knew someone who was a chiropractor. After just a few visits with Dr. Damron, I definitely noticed a difference in his techniques and style. It was nice to see results and feel like I was being listened to as a patient, not just heard…something you don’t always feel with doctors. After being a patient for several years, the opportunity came about to join the DCW team. It would be something different from what I had done in my past, however I knew my passion for working with people would translate well into helping patients receive the best care possible. I believed in the mission of DCW as a patient, and I am excited to be part of living that mission every day.
I am originally from St. Louis, MO. I graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia with a degree in Secondary Education – Language Arts. I worked in restaurant/catering management for several years before starting a career in retail management and training.
In that position, I met my husband, Matt, who is from Wilmington, OH. After we got married in 2010, I moved to Wilmington. Realizing retail wasn’t where my heart was any longer, I began working as a substitute teacher in the Clinton County area. Matt and I live in Wilmington with our 6 year old German Shepard, Dale. I enjoy camping, boating, riding 4-wheelers, and spending time with family and friends. I love St. Louis Cardinals baseball and am a recently converted Cincinnati Bengals fan.
